Breanne Laplante began her entertainment career in kids’ television at animation studio Mercury Filmworks (Vancouver, BC) in 2002 working alongside the CEO on all operations for the growing company. Her sharp instincts and aptitude for the business caught the attention of the executives and within her first year she transferred to the newly opened Ottawa, ON head office to oversee all business affairs activities for the company’s growing slate of high-profile projects. A few years later, Breanne joined the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) in the capacity of Policy Officer. Working with the VP of Business and Legal and the VP of Media Policy, she helped to inform and shape policy and regulations with key government officials in the finance and media sectors and lead the CMPA documentary committee as a representative of the association. Breanne returned to Vancouver in 2007 to join Insight Film Studios as Business Affairs Manager overseeing the business affairs and legal department across a significant slate of television movies and series, primarily for Syfy Network and Lifetime, and several independent features. During her time there, Breanne became integral to the company’s partnership with Reel One Entertainment and was brought onto the Reel One team by Tom Berry (CEO) to manage a slate of films co-produced by the two companies. Breanne went on to work exclusively for Reel One for over 14 years in the capacity of Executive VP of Business & Legal Affairs and Chief Operations Officer until 2023.
During her time at Reel One, Breanne was an integral part of the executive leadership team overseeing the company’s overall corporate strategy including finance, structure, business and production, managing hundreds of television movies and series, overseeing operations in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and the set up and execution of movies across Canada and the US. Breanne was central to the company’s partial sales to Newen Studios (TF1) in 2019 and to A+E Television Networks in 2020. With her participation in leadership, the company grew from a Canadian distribution company with an annual acquisition slate of approximately 15 movies, to an international production and distribution company with an annual slate of 115 television movies, managing the company’s strategic direction and finding financial advantages to contribute to the company’s significant financial growth between 2009 and 2013. With over 450 production credits to date, Breanne continues her journey in the entertainment industry through her company Colibri Productions in Vancouver, BC as an entertainment business and finance executive producer working with various partners and production companies to help bring great stories to life.
